Consumer Unit Upgrades in Bourne

On plenty of Bourne's older homes around the town centre and the Wellhead, the fuse box is the weakest link in an otherwise sound property. A board with rewireable fuses or no safety switches simply cannot catch faults the way a modern one can. A new consumer unit cuts the power in a fraction of a second when something goes wrong, protecting you from shock and the building from electrical fire.

We test every circuit before the changeover so there are no surprises, fit a quality board with surge protection as standard, give each circuit its own protection, label it all clearly and walk you round the new board before we go. Most upgrades take a day with just a few hours of power off. It is tested to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, we are City and Guilds qualified with 30 years of experience, and you get one fixed price in writing before any work starts.

Circuits tested first

Every circuit is inspected and tested before the swap, so hidden faults are found and priced honestly up front, not sprung on you mid-job.

Protection on every circuit

Each circuit gets its own safety switch, so a fault in one room never blacks out the whole property.

Labelled and explained

A clearly labelled board walked through with you, so you know exactly what does what before we leave.

Your questions, answered

Do I need a new consumer unit?

If yours has rewireable fuses, no safety switches or signs of overheating, it is worth upgrading. If it is perfectly fine we will tell you so, because we never sell a board you do not need.

How long is the power off?

Usually just a few hours in the middle of the day. We plan the changeover so disruption to your Bourne home stays as short as possible.

Will a new board keep tripping?

Only if there is a genuine fault to catch, which is the point of it. We test every circuit at changeover so anything the new board flags is found and fixed properly, not left to nag you.
