Your local electrician in Peterborough

Peterborough is a growing city. You can see it in the homes. Victorian terraces in the older parts need modern consumer units and rewires. Big new areas like Hampton and Paston Reserve want EV chargers and extra circuits.

We cover the city and its villages for home and business work. You get the same quick response, careful work and tidy finish, with a clear fixed price before anything starts.

We are based at Gosberton Clough, near Spalding. Peterborough is a regular run south for us. We have no office in the city, so we come to you.

Railway homes, New Town estates and new builds

Peterborough grew with the railway. The Great Northern line from London to York opened in 1850. Brickworks at Fletton came next. The city still has a row of old railway cottages. They now sit in their own conservation area.

The next big change came in 1967, when Peterborough became a New Town. New townships went up at Bretton, Orton and Werrington with Paston. Hampton came later as a fourth township. So many homes here were built in the 1970s and 1980s.

Each era needs something different. An old terrace may have had wiring added bit by bit for 100 years. A New Town house is now over 35 years old. Its board may have no RCD protection. A newer home in Hampton often just needs more sockets or a charger.

The city keeps growing. The council's Local Plan sets out 19,440 new homes between 2016 and 2036.

What we get called out for in Peterborough

Reports for licensed landlords

Peterborough runs selective licensing in ten wards, such as Central, North, Park and Bretton. Landlords there need their safety paperwork in order. We do the electrical safety report and explain each fault in plain English.

Checks on smaller HMOs

Since January 2026 the council has also licensed HMOs with three or four people. We test shared houses and fix what the report flags.

Boards on New Town homes

Lots of 1970s and 1980s homes still have an early board. We fit a modern consumer unit with RCD protection and test every circuit.

EV chargers and extra circuits

Newer homes in Hampton and Paston Reserve want home chargers and more power. We check the supply first, then fit it neatly.

What we do in Peterborough

Electrician in Peterborough, questions answered

Does my Peterborough rental need a selective licence?

It does if it is in one of the ten wards in the scheme. The scheme runs from 11 March 2024 to 10 March 2029. Check your address with Peterborough City Council. Every private let in England also needs an electrical safety report at least every five years.

Is my 1970s house in Orton or Bretton due a rewire?

Not always. Many still have sound cables. The board is often the weak spot. We test first and tell you straight what needs doing.

How much does an electrical safety report cost in Peterborough?

It depends on the size of the property and how many circuits it has. A shared house takes longer than a small flat. We give you a fixed price before we come out.
